For Summer 2024, Christ Dawn has partnered with Projecthrive to create a capsule collection of Bandhani styles that employed 10 artisans for 90 artisan workdays. This collaboration provided both economic opportunity and representation to these artisans with virtually no access to education and helped each of them provide for their families.
The fabric is hand tied into traditional motifs by artisans and then over-dyed to create resist motifs. These artisans have no alternative sources of income and this technique directly empowers artisans as funds reach their bank accounts and help them educate their children and promote family welfare. Projecthrive has been partnering with these communities to connect them with the Global market since 2009.
Through the utilization of hand tie and dye techniques instead of machine printing, we’ve conserved 33.56 kW of Energy in the production of these garments.
The clothes you buy can change lives. By buying this garment from Christy Dawn you are not only supporting the livelihood of artisans and ensuring that they are paid well and working in a safe environment but you are also helping preserve generational Indigenous textile techniques that would become extinct were they not supported by socially motivated brands.
